Movies with Dentists
There are a several famous movies in the United States with a dentist character in it, including Horrible Bosses, Novocaine, and The Whole Nine Yards. Some are funny, some are inspiring and some are downright weird. Did you know about the movies with dentists below and the dentist characters they featured?
1) Marathon Man
This release is a 1976 suspense thriller film regarding an enthusiastic graduate student and runner in New York who is deeply drawn into a mysterious plot involving his European girlfriend, globe-trotting brother, and an infamous Nazi war criminal in hiding. This is arguably the most famous – and fearsome – screen dentist of all. In this movie, Laurence Olivier played Nazi war criminal Christian Szell with grim relish. It was his pivotal scene in John Schlesinger’s endlessly gripping chase/revenge thriller that drilled the phrase “Is it safe?” into the lexicon. Trips to the dentist proved terrifying for those who winced their way through the main character’s turn as Nazi torturer Dr Szell in Marathon Man. One of the famous quote in the movie is:
“Oh, please don’t worry. I’m not going into that cavity. That nerve’s already dying. A live, freshly-cut nerve is infinitely more sensitive. So I’ll just drill into a healthy tooth until I reach the pulp… unless of course you can tell me that it’s safe.”
This one was considered a low-budget film typically characterized by the use of nonprofessional actors and naturalistic or improvised performances. This one come from a few years back that featured a quirky teenager; he couldn’t kick his childhood thumb sucking habit. In the film, he meets a rather different dentist who shares his wisdom with the young protagonist in the above scene. This movie was well received by the viewers, though can’t be considered a classic. Justin throws himself into chaos when he attempts to break free from his habit of thumb sucking.
3) Finding Nemo
This is a show that is the family’s favourite, and to is fair a lot of people think of the Dentist in this film as the bad guy as he is going to give Nemo away to his insulting niece. The truth is the dentist is just an average, nice guy who wants to do a beautiful thing for a young girl. When you think about it, it’s quite sweet. In this scene, he’s handing over Nemo to his niece when the fish make a scene in the dental clinic, with hilarious repercussions.
4) Ghost Town
In this paranormal movie, Ricky Gervais can see dead people. When the film starts, Ricky isn’t portrayed as a good man. Although he is an excellent dentist, he has terrible bedside manner and an absolute despise for people in general. Then his unique gift causes him to open up and notice the people around him differently.
